Home
The morning in Duluth is breaking clear and cold but without the wind from last night. They have a little better free breakfast here and we get some mystery meat and eggs with our waffles and oatmeal. We decide on a walk before getting on the road and wander around Canal Park and beyond to the Convention Center and outdoor concert area on the harbor. We are walking for about an hour and a half so we hustle to finish getting packed and checked out when we get back. Mary is refusing to go home so she goes back out to hit the shops while John does some Internet stuff and reads a book while watching the lake.
It is almost noon when we finally get going so we don’t stop for lunch until about 1:30 at “Forest Lake,” a restaurant we have liked in the past in Grand Rapids. Mary has a good looking chili and John goes for the southwestern pork tenderloin sandwich. The sandwich is a little over-complicated, but one of the reasons we like this place is because they are willing to make an effort. Good for them.
Mary is till trying to delay our return home and considering alternate destinations for tonight, but finally relents. It is about 3:30 when we pull in and notice that our yard has been perfectly coiffed so Denny has once again worked his magic. We fire up the water, heat, and electronics and are fully active in another hour. We put off thinking about mail, groceries and laundry until tomorrow, have a cocktail and food from the freezer, put our feet up and welcome ourselves home.
We had a great time, but ya know, there are some things we missed so have to start thinking about when we should go back.
